After a more than successful East Coast Sketcbot release and signing at MyPlasticHeart, Steve Talkowski was asked by Man One (CreWest owner) if he'd zip out for a West Coast Sketchbot release and signing. Of course we had to head out to show our love and support, so we headed out yesterday mid-day. Despite LA traffic we made it in, let's say 'decent' time. Upon arriving, I was pleased to meet (for the first time face to face) with Steve. Steve has been working in character design and 3D animation for quite some time. Previously working for Blue Sky Studios opened a major door for him enabling him to get his hands on jobs with Target, Pepsi, M&M’s, Mott’s, and Braun, as well as the feature films Joe’s Apartment, Alien Resurrection, and Ice Age (a personal favorite of mine). He's got friends in the vinyl scene so of course, in the end he couldn't resist producing his own toy. After much anticipated lapses, hold-ups in customs, testing, the works... his first figure, the Sketchbot comes to life! I'm glad he gave the scene a shot and am pleased to say he is too! He told me of plans in the works... keep your eye out for possible variations of this one-eyed bot, possibly at SDCC 2010. I'm not saying more, not just yet anyway.
