Acamonchi at Beach Bikes from xavier vasquez on Vimeo.
Beach Bikes San Diego had their first official art show last Friday. what better way to start it off than with internationally renowned artist Gerardo Yepiz, AKA Acamonchi. His often politically charged art is also mixed with with a lighter side, at times, which is fitting since he works in mixed media. He took a unique approach by incorporating the beach cruiser theme to compliment the setting of the show. His work was stunning, to say the least with quite a few pieces on display. I also spoke with Ashley, the manager of Beach Bikes San Diego to get an idea of why they chose to host an art show at a bike store. She stated that having so many large, empty walls in the store was boring. Her original idea was to have an artist do a mural, but decided it would be more fitting to host art shows so the theme would have the ability to consistently change. She informed me the art shows will take place the first Friday of each month, with her next artist already lined up. She seems to have started off on the right foot by acquiring such talent. Stay tuned for future installments. If you are free the first Friday of each month, stop by for a dose of Kulture.
Thank you to Beach Bikes San Diego Staff, Gerardo Yepiz and a special thank you to Xavier Vasquez for the interview video.
