*RECAP* PxL + Gallery Ground Opening (press)
PXL Plus Grand Opening from Bluemotion Productions on Vimeo.
It was only a matter of time before it happened! The PXL+ Gallery—brainchild of one of the original wave of Designer Vinyl (it was called Urban Vinyl back then!) artists, Nakanari—was born. The inevitability of the event did not take away from the significance of opening a multidisciplinary mecca for creativity in Orlando completely distinct from any other art showroom in the City Beautiful. The part gallery, part urban boutique, part studio, and part classroom concept was made a reality through collaboration between Bluemotion Productions, Nakanari and MaiHiro partner, soujohn, and allowed the unique space to officially open on November 16th, 2011.
Despite the Thanksgiving holiday (and Black Friday anti-holiday) weekend, there were scores of design-conscious Orlando locals who came out to show their support for the PXL+ Premiere art show reception. It marked only the beginning of a steady schedule of art shows and special events to take place within the huge art showcase area situated in the back of the PXL+ Gallery building. Talented artists and friends of Maihiro and Bluemotion were in attendance to socialize and view the opening visual art show. Some of the esteemed artists and guests included Nakanari, soujohn, Nico Lucido, J.P. Perez, the entire Bluemotion crew, Live Citrus’ Christian Ricca, simplyilly8bit’s Ileana Rincon, Steven Miller, Julius Mayo Jr., and Dave Quiles. Also, gallery friend and neighbor, The BBoy Spot, showed encouragement and support for the opening event. Finally, in a gesture to produce appetite satisfaction for guests, Chewy Boba provided boba tea drinks, and various food trucks were on hand to serve hot meals on wheels. It was truly a memorable inauguration of the PXL+ Gallery, with even more amazing events to come!
Those behind the PXL+ Gallery store are collectors themselves, and thus are compelled to carry and look out for the best in artistic products and apparel with brands such as Kidrobot, Tokidoki, Kuso Vinyl/Kusopop, Puff Nation, Outta My Mind Creations/Urban Forest Jewelry, Maihiro, and of course the PXL+ brand. In fact, in many cases, it is the only place on this planet to find certain exclusive designs! Original artwork from the Maihiro team and other contributing artists can be purchased at the gallery. During a visit to the PXL+ Gallery, guests can check out the special section containing Nakanari’s private collection of old skool vinyl figures from artists including Michael Lau and Eric So, rare pieces of designer vinyl art, and customs on display. Be sure to drop by to see what’s new at the amazing blend of art, design, and all around good times called the PXL+ Gallery.

Casting Shadows Pain. Soul Edition (press)
When silence remains.
coarse presents casting shadows pain as their final release of 2011. Featuring two vinyl figures, "noop" – arched in misery and "nism", peering from under his protective husk – complete with dazzling sharktooth warning markings. The set comes complete with a fabric kite, floating above the scenery and a set of typographic leaves, spelling "coarse". The assemblage speaks love, vulnerability, betrayal and revenge, all intertwined to create a unsettling perspective of the future. Bringing the declining mood of all coarse creations to a tipping point.
The noop knows that their days are numbered, and tries to fight the coming of the endless winter by flying his paw! kite, regardless of the appalling conditions. In his efforts to overcome their situation, his noble friend nism is forgotten. The noop becomes lost in a cerebral storm and bad turns to worse when nism reappears in the form of a ruthless killer from the waters, the noop’s innermost fear. His thoughts are subject to outside interference, and he can no longer decipher between reality, prophecy, nightmares and death. Momentarily caught in equilibrium, right on the edge of extinction.
coarse's casting shadows pain will be available in two editions.
soul edition (HK$ 3680 — including shipping) is limited to 200 pieces and comes packed and encased in an impressive, wooden, 5 colour truetone screenprinted chest, complete with elastic draw cords. The soul edition will be available on December 20, 2011 at www.coarsehkg.com (07:59 am Los Angeles, 10:59 am New York, 04:59 pm Hamburg, 11:59 pm Hong Kong).
signature edition (HK$ 2820 — suggested retail price in Asia) will hit stores in spring 2012. The figures are securely embedded in black sponge, and packaged in a smooth all matte-black corrugated cardboard box. Closed with an interactive pop up sleeve which allows you to eye-witness how blood streams out of noops mouth and nism says "good bye".
Both editions include the noop [7'' / 18 cm], heart-crossed, bleeding and padded with bandages, accompanied by nism [4'' / 10 cm], his pod emblazoned with a shark snarl pattern and finished in a light shifting high-shine gloss finish, a coarse vinyl first. The noop is ready for you to set up his looming paw! kite [14'' / 35 cm] and take flight. The scenario is completed by a set of bloody c-o-a-r-s-e alphabet leaves, for you to scatter around them in loving memory.
