coarse presents casting shadows pain as their final release of 2011. Featuring two vinyl figures, "noop" – arched in misery and "nism", peering from under his protective husk – complete with dazzling sharktooth warning markings. The set comes complete with a fabric kite, floating above the scenery and a set of typographic leaves, spelling "coarse". The assemblage speaks love, vulnerability, betrayal and revenge, all intertwined to create a unsettling perspective of the future. Bringing the declining mood of all coarse creations to a tipping point.
The noop knows that their days are numbered, and tries to fight the coming of the endless winter by flying his paw! kite, regardless of the appalling conditions. In his efforts to overcome their situation, his noble friend nism is forgotten. The noop becomes lost in a cerebral storm and bad turns to worse when nism reappears in the form of a ruthless killer from the waters, the noop’s innermost fear. His thoughts are subject to outside interference, and he can no longer decipher between reality, prophecy, nightmares and death. Momentarily caught in equilibrium, right on the edge of extinction.
coarse's casting shadows pain will be available in two editions.
soul edition (HK$ 3680 — including shipping) is limited to 200 pieces and comes packed and encased in an impressive, wooden, 5 colour truetone screenprinted chest, complete with elastic draw cords. signature edition (HK$ 2820 — suggested retail price in Asia) will hit stores in spring 2012. The figures are securely embedded in black sponge, and packaged in a smooth all matte-black corrugated cardboard box. Closed with an interactive pop up sleeve which allows you to eye-witness how blood streams out of noops mouth and nism says "good bye".
Both editions include the noop [7'' / 18 cm], heart-crossed, bleeding and padded with bandages, accompanied by nism [4'' / 10 cm], his pod emblazoned with a shark snarl pattern and finished in a light shifting high-shine gloss finish, a coarse vinyl first. The noop is ready for you to set up his looming paw! kite [14'' / 35 cm] and take flight. The scenario is completed by a set of bloody c-o-a-r-s-e alphabet leaves, for you to scatter around them in loving memory.

About the artists
The German artists behind coarse, Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk, became recognized by art collectors worldwide for their solo exhibitions in Chicago, Berlin and Taipei, showcasing original sculptures, paintings and photography.
Selected works, crafted in limited quantities from vinyl and fiberglass, are frequently released and are made available via gallery stores, selected retailers and the coarse online store.
